Drexel Crew team
and Bachelors barge club

Boathouse #6 on Philadelphia’s famous Boathouse Row is the Bacehlors Barge Club and currently houses the Drexel University Crew Team. This body of work explores the unique connection between the two organizations and the young athletes who continue the long legacy of rowing in Philadelphia. Throughout this project I was constantly learning and often shocked by rowing’s unique history, like the fact women had the right to vote before receiving the right to row. Or that Bachelor’s Barge Club is named so because members had to be bachelors (unmarried) or they lost their voting rights in the club. Rowing’s history in Philadelphia spans over 175 years and continues today with its strong community. In these images, I aim to showcase the history and beauty of the sport, while inviting viewers to investigate the blend of past and present.
